Scottish Distillery Launches Oldest Whisky To Date Bottled At 84 Years Old

Glenfarclas releases ‘oldest whisky to date’ bottled at 84-years-old

The new expression from the Speyside distillery is the culmination of over eight decades of maturation.

Glenfarclas Distillery has launched what it claims is the oldest single malt whisky ever bottled, at 84 years old.

The new expression, named ‘The Family Casks 1937’, has been matured in a combination of sherry and bourbon casks since 1937. It is bottled at a strength of 46.8% ABV and is said to have a ‘rich and complex’ flavor profile.

The whisky was distilled in 1937, during the reign of King George VI. It was laid down in a traditional dunnage warehouse and has been matured in the same casks for the past 84 years.

Glenfarclas Distillery is a family-owned business that has been producing whisky for over 175 years. The distillery is located in the Speyside region of Scotland, and is known for its traditional approach to whisky making.

The Family Casks 1937 is a limited edition release, with only 150 bottles available. It is priced at £15,000 per bottle.

John L.S. Grant, sixth-generation owner of Glenfarclas Distillery, said: “We are delighted to release this exceptional whisky. It is a testament to the skill and dedication of our team, and to the unique climate and terroir of Speyside.”

The Family Casks 1937 is the latest in a series of rare and exclusive releases from Glenfarclas Distillery. In recent years, the distillery has released a number of whiskies aged for over 60 years, including the 60-year-old Glenfarclas 1952 and the 64-year-old Glenfarclas 1954.

The release of The Family Casks 1937 is a significant event in the world of whisky. It is a rare opportunity to own a piece of whisky history.
