Switzerland Beats Serbia 3-2, Advances to World Cup Knockout Stage
Switzerland sealed their place in the World Cup last 16 following an entertaining five-goal victory over Serbia to round off the group stage.
Switzerland booked their place in the World Cup knockout stages with a 3-2 victory but only after suffering a huge scare from Serbia in an epic.
Switzerland started off hot as Xherdan Shaqiri took an early lead in the 20th minute. Serbia responded with a goal from Aleksandar Mitrovic in the 26th minute, but Shaqiri restored Switzerland's lead just before halftime.
In the second half, Dusan Vlahovic equalized for Serbia in the 53rd minute, but Breel Embolo scored the winning goal for Switzerland in the 73rd minute.
The victory means that Switzerland finishes second in Group G with six points, while Serbia finishes third with three points and is eliminated from the tournament.
Switzerland will face Portugal in the Round of 16 on Tuesday, December 6th.
