Operation Overlord Commences

On June 6, 1944, the world witnessed a pivotal moment in history as Allied forces launched their invasion of Western Europe, known as D-Day. The operation, dubbed Operation Overlord, marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany.

Led by General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Allied force consisted of troops from the United States, Great Britain, Canada, and other countries. They faced fierce resistance from German soldiers, who had fortified the beaches of Normandy in anticipation of the invasion.

Despite heavy casualties, the Allied forces managed to establish a foothold on French soil. The successful landings signaled the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe and the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany.
