Mississippi State Fires Zach Arnett After One Season

Former Bulldogs Defensive Coordinator Led Team After Mike Leach's Passing

Arnett's Tenure Ends with 4-6 Record

Mississippi State has fired head football coach Zach Arnett after just one season. The move was announced Monday by athletic director Zac Selmon.

Arnett, who served as the Bulldogs' defensive coordinator for three seasons, took over as head coach in December 2022 following the tragic passing of Mike Leach. Mississippi State finished the 2023 season with a 4-6 record, including a 1-6 mark in SEC play.

Arnett's firing comes two days after Mississippi State suffered a 51-10 defeat to Texas A&M. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 4-6 on the season and eliminated them from contention for a bowl game.

Mississippi State will now begin a search for its next head football coach. Arnett's firing is the latest in a series of high-profile coaching changes in the SEC in recent months.
